DEAR OL’ DAD
You might say that I was literally “born into” this specialized industry.
My family’s first house lifting & deeper basement project was done to the very house that I was born into. In 1961, the family home was too small for my parents and us 7 kids. Dad decided to lift up the house and dig out the basement. I was 1 year old. It was 1962.
Dad and Mom live in Victoria. You may see them visiting your jobsite someday. At 93, Dad is still quick to educate, encourage and inspire. When he sees an eager young member of the house lifting crew working careless or too fast, Dad will pull him aside and whisper into his ear the very same thing I’ve heard since I was a kid:
“If you are too hurried to do the job right the first time, where are you going to find time to do it over again?”
Dad and Mom insisted that every project needs to be done right, even if it means doing it over again.
Dad took up carving in his retirement. Below are a couple of his birds. Some carvings have been commissioned by Provincial and Federal governments to be given as gifts to foreign dignitaries, but luckily, most have been given to my siblings and I.

REAL VALUE FOR THE CUSTOMER – THE BIG PICTURE
Every Level Lift apprentice must first have construction experience working under a lifted building. This experience may be gained by building a deeper basement, new crawl space foundations under an old house, or the replacement of rotten posts, beams or walls.
At first, you may think that this specific construction experience is not related to the actual work of house lifting or shoring. But we believe it’s critical that every house lifter know first-hand the headaches and costs that the construction contractors who follow will face if the house lifter doesn’t do his job right. This is the only way that a young apprentice in our industry can truly appreciate why lifting and leveling has to be done very accurately and in very specific ways.
By making it easy for the trades that follow, correct shoring, lifting and leveling saves the building’s owner additional time and money on the trades that follow. These trades bid on their work lower on a Level Lift job because they know we’ll do it right. These savings accrue long after Level Lift leaves the site. Now that’s REAL VALUE for our customers!
